I REALLY Hate Nostr
Context
Nostr (as a platform) is a decentralized, node-based BlueSky alternative. A in concept sound idea. Posts get distributed via relays making any form of evil censorship impossible.
Reasons to hate this platform
The censorship resilience makes it very hard to moderate. The only tool to get people of your feed is by blocking. Banns are virtually impossible. Because if one relay blocks an account others will relay them. If you don't want to moderate your own relay, you are at the mercy of one or multiple node operators. (Multiple in case you want high availability and fast distribution of your posts.)
This unmoderability attracts those who usually get filtered by moderation tools. The result is a cesspool of crypto-bros (especially bitcoiners), libertarians, right-to-far-right people spamming garbage at each other.
My introduction to the platform was the "GM"-posts. A type of post that anyone who had contact to the crypto-sphere should know. It usually in just "GM" and maybe includes a unrelated picture or gm-"meme" (meme is charitable).
Why would anyone post like this? You may ask.
Well, the platform supports a crypto called "zaps". These are distributed by people to other people whose posts they like or in giveaways.
Naturally this attracts bots...
Bots that try to be relatable to crypto bros and therefore are just as insufferable as the people it tries to attract.
Result
A boring and cringe platform with reply-guys/bots, that circlejerk about btc and say GM every five minutes to get some attention/money from people who got money. Basically sugar-babying for crypto bros.
